A handwritten bill of sale for a 23-year-old woman named Rachel to Robert Watson from A. Calhoun for the sum of $625, dated April 2,1836. The bill is written in brown ink on a half sheet of off-white paper. At top left is [Georgia / Muscogee County]. The document reads in part: [Received of Robert Watson Six hundred / & Twenty Five Dollars for a Negro Woman / Rachel aged Twenty Three Years which / I warrant to be sound in mind & body and I do / hereby warrant & defend the right &title to said / Robert Watson and his heir [sic] and assigns forever]. It is signed at bottom right with handwritten seal by [A. Calhoun] and witnessed at bottom left by [E.L. Wittich]. On the verso is written [Calhoun / Bill of Sale For Rachel].
