A black velveteen hat (a) with white feathers decorating the crown and a black hat pin (b). The understructure of the hat is composed of stiffened nylon net that has been blocked to shape. The net base is covered with two panels of black velveteen fabric – a layer of velveteen is glued to the crown and a panel of velveteen is gathered with hand stitches and glued to the brim. White and black feathers are adhered to a strip of cotton canvas, which is then glued to the crown of the hat. Synthetic silk is machine stitched to the underside of the brim. The interior of the hat is unlined. A black Petersham ribbon is stitched along the inner brim. Machine stitched to the interior center back of the hat, over the Petersham ribbon, is a white fabric union label tag that reads [UNION MADE / JN 376256] in faded black text. The hat pin (b) features a steal pin and black glass head
