Carte-de-visite of Phebe M. Coffin shown in seated full portrait. She is turned one quarter to her right and looks off frame. Her hair is parted in the middle and gathered into a dark colored snood behind her head. She wears a dark colored dress, a white lace collar, and a wide ribbon tied in a bow at her front neck. A large dark colored shawl heavily embellished with lace and fringe is draped over her arms and pinned with a large brooch at her front chest. She is seated in a carved side chair with a high padded back and her right elbow is resting on a table covered in a damask cloth. Her left hand rests in her lap.
