Carte-de-visite of Charles Dickens shown in half portrait. Dickens is seated and turned one quarter to his left with head turned in profile showing the right side of his face. He is balding and the hair on top of his head is combed over. He has a mustache and a long goatee. Dickens wears a dark jacket with black velvet lapels, a black velvet vest, and white shirt, and a dark necktie. A tie pin is placed near his front neck and a watch chain is visible across his vest. There is a border printed in gold ink surrounding the outside edges of the card mount.
