He is wearing a military uniform which is unbuttoned in the middle. Hines wears a hat with an insignia on front of crossed swords. The photograph is taken in a studio with a simple backdrop. The bottom of the photograph has an inscription and signature that reads, [John / his / x / mark / Hines / Cook of. / "K"]. There are no marks or inscriptions on the verso.
