Photograph of an original painting created by Don Bergland on March 15, 2001,  while  he  served as Chief Creative Officer  (CCO)  of Zamage Digital Imaging Company in Burnaby,  BC.   This was work undertaken as  part of his university-based Technoethnographic research into digital imaging and corporate creative environments.  The painting, titled,  Employee ,  is an early attempt at surrealism and  explores the mechanization of human labour through a surreal composition of clockwork, industrial forms, and an organic environment. Mechanical components, gears, repeated structures, and precise linear elements suggest a world governed by routine and technological efficiency, while the surrounding forms remain biological and unpredictable.  Employee  was subsequently used in company advertising, posters, and  diverse forms of corporate  merchandising.
