In the court culture of Rajasthan, the hunt was the quintessential expression of the Rajput ethos, embodying martial skills, valor, and honor. It grew out of the celebration of the hunt in Mughal painting and became a powerful genre for Rajput court painting in the eighteenth century and later. The noble tiger was seen as an appropriate match for the skills of the Rajput aristocrat.
