Italian portrait artist Filippo Marantonio (1863-1937) was active around Naples, Italy.  This (partly cracked) oil on board painting was digitized by stitching together multiple macro photos to show texture.  Background was digitally smudged in some spots using GIMP photoshop simulator program.  The artist’s signature is famously difficult to decipher, at times appearing like “mgiggfogia” or “mwastamia.” 19th century classical realist style.
