Three surviving images from the abstract Design series. On September 19, 1979, Don Bergland started work on a group of paintings based on a loose stylistic theme he had invented. In August, 1979, Bergland moved to the Bella Coola Valley to begin a new position as Music Director for School District 40 (Central Coast). His objective was to set up a visual studio and begin seriously developing a style of artwork that could launch his exhibiting art career. He established a studio in the top floor of an old Norwegian settler house in Hagensborg, and began working with acrylic paint on canvas. He completed this stylistic series of work August 23, 1980, having finished 146 paintings in this style. They were exhibited at Art World ‘80 at the Pacific National Exhibition in August, 1980.
