I am from the port city Latakia in Syria and left Syria in October 2015 and moved to Brussels. Most of my family has stayed in Syria but two of my brothers travelled with me and are now living in Antwerp, Belgium. Before I left Syria, my mother gave me these prayer beads, which we call Misbaha, as a way of remembering her and my country. As soon as the war is over, I wish to return to my hometown, but I do not know when that will be. Until then I am doing French courses here in Brussels. The second object is a picture that I drew, which is very dear to me. It is about the war and all the forces that caused it and are burdening Syria: Bashar al-Assad and Russian and Iranian influence, represented by the crossed-our flags in the drawing, as well as the use of chemical weapons on the people of Syria. It also shows the Belgian flag as a symbol of my current home. The label says Stop the War and Assad in Arabic.
