It has a slender appearance and a large waist. It presents the long, narrow head. Colorful: Dorsal is gray-yellow with a dark, relatively indistinct drawing. Ventral has alternating black spots on a yellowish background. It does not meet at appreciable distances from the water accumulations, which it leaves only for laying ponts and hibernation. He lives both in the sheds and in the high regions. He has a diurnal way of life, he moves with agility and when he is in danger, the first reaction is to hide. The hibernation takes place from October to April. The food consists of small fish, frogs, tadpoles, tritons, which they lurk and hunt under water. Ponta is laid in June-July and is represented by 5-25 long and white eggs, glued to each other, buried shallow. It is found in the Red Book of vertebrates from Romania as an almost threatened species.
