The Portable Antiquities Scheme

This is a post medieval hammered silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). This coin is from the third and fourth issue on the smaller flan and dated 1567. The obverse has the portrait bust left with rose in field behind the head. The probable bust style is 4B and the mintmark is type 74 – Coronet. The reverse has the square-topped shield on long cross fourchée with the date (1567) above.The coin has heavily clipped with a silvery grey/black patina
