A hammered silver sixpence of Elizabeth I (1558-1603). The coin is from the 3rd and 4th issue and is dated 1572, that in turn is supported by the mint mark of an ermine to the obverse. The obverse has the portrait bust facing left with a rose in the field behind the head. The reverse has the square-topped shield on long cross fourchée with date above. The coin is very worn with only the vestiges of the bust and rose to the obverse and much of the legend to both sides now obscure. There is clipping the rim.
