This hammered silver coin purports to be a two pence piece of Charles II (1660-85). The coin attempts to imitate the early hammered coins of that reign to 1603; however, when examined closely, it does not make the grade. The designs are crudely executed with the portrait very sketchy and the reverse shield having the design, stick-like in execution. The coin is also heavily worn, clipped, split and pierced, only one piecing being deliberate the other simply fragmentation of the coin. None the less, it adds to the database, being a probable contemporary forgery of the time.
