Modern seal; impressed lead alloy bag seal, or similar, with a coin of George III used as seal matrix. The seal is a large, horizontal oval of lead with a short sprue extending down from the bottom of the oval. The object is broken off at the bottom of the sprue. The front face of the seal bears the reversed impression of a coin, judging from the size (approx. 28.5mm diameter) and inscription this seems to be a halfpenny of George III, dated 1806. It has a laureate head of the king facing left as you look at it (in reverse to the portrait on the coin) and can be seen to read GEORGIUS III D:G: [REX] / 180[6] (also in reverse). The sprue extends below the base of the coin. The reverse of the seal has a flattened oval area and then tapers to the edges.The coin has been used as a make-shift seal matrix and it seems likely that this would have happened when the coin was in circulation, or shortly afterwards.Length (top of seal to base of sprue) 33.6mm, width 33.7mm, thickness 4.5mm, weight 28.37g
