Early Roman dupondius of Hadrian dating from AD118.Prof David Shotter remarks that the die-engravers were not quite sure, it seems, about Hadrian's portrait, and made him look a bit like Trajan (Hadrian was in the east at the time of his accession in 117, and only just arrived in Rome - hence the reverse legend).Obv: IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS HADRIANVS AVG / PONT MAX radiate head rightRev: TR POT COS II ADVENTVS AVG S C in exergue.Ref: RIC 2(1) (Hadrian), 554.
