A Post Medieval square copper alloy double sided coin weight. On the obverse is a three quarter length portrait of James I encircled by a pellet border. On the reverse is XXs (for 20 shillings) under a crown within a plain line circular border, over-stamped with a crowned I to upper left. This is a British made weight for a laurel of James I, 3rd coinage (Withers and Withers 1995:13). It is 18.06mm in length and 17.34mm in width by 4.12mm thick; it weighs 7.4 grams. A full weight laurel of the period 1604-1619 AD weighed 140.5 grains; coin weights are typically made slightly light to fit the legal minimum weight of the coin.
