Wool blanket

Material: natural and coloured wool (black or dark brown, pink, orange, green and yellow) could be hand-spun and hand-dyed, embroidery yarns (light blue, dark blue, yellow).Technique: two jobs, twill weave and flat weave over two warp threads, weft visible.The jobs are put together with a wide flat stitch, a 'randa'. See drawing.Every 4 cm or so the colours change, in total approx. 4 cm or 2.5 inches wide.The strip is made up of black or dark brown warp threads, except for the outer edges, where there are natural threads over approx. 2½ cm or 2.5 inches. The top and bottom of the fabric is made with several centimetres of black, pink and orange weft. Plain weave on two threads, a stripe pattern of approx. 20 cm. starts from approx. 20 cm. of the upper and lower edge. The stripes are natural (plain weave) and black (twill), some narrow pink and orange stripes run through. The rest of the course is made with a white weft, twill weave (taking two warp threads, each weft staggered) creating a diagonal natural-black striped pattern.From the weft fringes are made, which are half finished on one side of the blanket: two strands of two threads twisted together with a knot at the end. On the side of the unfinished fringe the last 20 cm. are not stitched together with the randa. To hold the two points together somewhat, two fringe threads are knotted together.\The blanket is worn by the Trique women at Chicahuaxla, but woven by the Mixtecs, at San Miguel el Grande, close to Chalcatongo.
