Summary: View of Guayaquil at the mouth of the Guayas River. The buildings that appear in the first term correspond to the old population, in the center is represented the famous shipyard and to the bottom the new city. On the left, the bay with the corvettes of the expedition and other vessels. Santiago de Guayaquil was founded in 1532 by Sebastián de Benalcazar. It is the largest city in the Republic of Ecuador. Drawing made during the Malaspina expedition, which took place between 1789 and 1794. Commander Alejandro Malaspina lead the expedition organized by the Spanish crown to tour his American possessions, according to a plan presented by the sailor himself. The material gathered is scattered in different institutions of Spain, England, Argentina and Chile. Signed by the sailor José Cardero, who also acted as draftsman during the expedition.
