Fragment of a Late Early-Medieval stirrup strap mount (1000-1100). This is the top section of a pentagonal stirrup strap mount; it includes the apex and half of the left hand side. It is 30.46 mm in length, 29.74 mm in width, 2.04 mm in thickness and weighs 5.7 g. At the apex, there is a rivet hole measuring 3.8 mm in diameter, but the rivet is missing.The mount is a Williams Class A Type 1. Similar examples can be found in Williams pp. 27-29 and the closest parallel is a mount from Hastings, East Sussex, p. 27 (cat no. 4).The stirrup strap mount appears slightly convex at the front and slightly concave at the reverse. There are two decorative lugs either side of the apex and one at the central outward curve of the left side. There is no trace of decorative engraving apparent of either the front or reverse of the mount.
