Post Medieval fob seal matrix, chain missing, probably of late 18th century date. The fob seal is oval and complete. The rear of the seal frame is domed with a sturdy openwork frame decorated with stylised grapes and leaves and a central piercing to take the fob chain. The intaglio is secured in a frame without grips. The intaglio is made from quartz, probably amethyst since it has a purple/lilac shine to it. To make the engraving stand out even more, a thin metal foil was inserted between intaglio and frame which catches the light. At the centre is the carving of a dog running over grass/a meadow, but no lettering. The fob seal may have been gilt, but none of the gilding remains in the centre on the back and between the decorative grapes and leaves.
