Medieval lead seal matrix, 31mm in diameter, 6mm thick with a weight of 22.04g. The object is circular and flat, and is decorated on the reverse with a cast raised circular border, positioned off centre, over which lies a relief fleur-de-lis motif. The matrix side has a central motif of six thin lines radiating from a central pellet in an incised circular border (so with a resemblance to a six-spoked cartwheel) and an outer inscription set between grooved lines, which reads * S'. ThOME. LE CARTER (Seal of Thomas the Carter). The S is reversed but otherwise the engraving is neat and competent.
