1600

A copper alloy seal matrix of the Post Medieval Period, probably 1600-1800. The seal is circular and features intaglio engraving of a shield. The design is very worn, but a six-pointed pierced mullet is discernable at the base. On the reverse, there appears to be some solder remaining, suggesting that the object was soldered onto the fob. This points to an unusual method of manufacture, as fob seals were usually cast as whole objects. Alternatively, it may have been attached to a ring bezel.
