A complete Medieval cast lead-alloy seal matrix,probably dating to the 13th century. It is flat and circular with a pierced lug projecting approximately 6.2mm from the reverse, at 6 o'clock relative to the engraving on the front. Also on the reverse is a cast, raised initial on either side of the lug, and a cross or four-pointed star above it; the initials are probably I. I. or T. T. The engraved face has a central motif of an eight-petalled flower, with the petals radiating from a small central pellet. The inscription is set between two engraved grooved borders, and reads * S' WI[LL]I BONERE (Seal of Will[iam] Bonere or Bonnar). Reaney and Wilson (1976) record this name in Scotland in the 15th century. Dimensions: thickness: 3.56mm; diameter: 26.06mm; weight: 15.74g.
