Medieval Gilt buckle, oval frame with integral plate and D-section tapering pin. Two adjacent, broad, transverse rib mouldings on the plate. One is cut by the pin hole and carries rocker-arm engraving, the other is cut by a rivet. A second rivet cuts through a trefoil terminal at the attachment edge. The short bar between the two rivets is the most abraded part. It is of D-section, with a median engraved line (now standing slightly proud). The one intact rivet suggests the leather was c.2.5mm thick. Possibly for use with a spur leather. Length 39mm, width of frame 12mm, of trefoil terminal 8.5mm. 13th – 14th century.
