Medieval Front sheet plate from a composite strap-end with indications in solder on the reverse of side strips (cf. Dress Access. nos.623 and 627). The inside edge is concave, the sides converging gently to a rounded terminal. One rivet near outside edge. Engraved lines outline an elongated cross shape in the angles of which oblique lines define areas alternatively left plain and filled with rocker-arm engraving. The decoration is partly obscured by ferrous deposits. 44m x 13mm. 14th century.
