Fragment of a copper alloy possible Early Saxon brooch or mount, flat-backed and broken across a narrow end of flattened D-section. Expanded ovoid mask like/animal-headed terminal with moulded decoration comprising two annulets for eyes, and flanking curvilinear engraving. The object is reminiscent of the foot of a brooch. However, there is no trace of a catch-plate and there is a copper alloy rivet (probably secondary) through the edge of one 'eye'. The object has a slight Scandinavian feel. Surviving length 47mm. Width 24mm. 4mm thick. Possibly 6th century.
