Part of an unusual rectangular buckle frame made from cut and folded thick sheet, with a (missing) separate central bar. The outside edge, all of one side and part of another are extant. The inside edge would have been an iron spindle within a sheet roller, set into holes through the two sides. The bar, also of iron, would have been set in similar holes and held a pin and sheet plate. The outside edge is wide and convex with a large V-shaped cut-out, and is decorated with radial lines of rocker-arm engraving. Its inner part, which projects between the junction with the sides, is folded forward. Cf. two examples from London (Fingerlin 1971 Abb. 324 Kat. Nr. 229 and Abb. 325 Kat. Nr. 192). Several other similar buckles have been found in Norfolk, at Binham (HER 34325), Carleton Rode (HER 23418) and Kenninghall/Quidenham (HER 37188). 15th century.
