Medieval gilt copper alloy buckle: trapezoidal frame with narrowed bar and with closely spaced engraved grooves on all of the front face of the sides and outside edge; D-sectioned pin in a more darkly patinated alloy, and apparently not gilt; rectangular plate with pin slot, frame recesses, three rivets and lines of finely executed interrupted rocker-arm engraving giving the appearance of tiny addorsed triangles along both sides, the inside edge and behind the pin slot. Most of the gilding has been lost, but it remains around the rivet heads and within the engraved features which now stand slightly proud of the abraded surrounding areas. One end of the insdie edge is bent. Frame length 19mm, width 46.5mm. Plate length 18mm, width 40.5mm. Overall length 32mm. c.1250 - c.1400.
