The man clutches a box lettered with Thoma's monogram and the date 1919 in reverse. The woman picks the petals off a flower ("He loves me, he loves me not"). Death in a broad-brimmed hat looks over her shoulder. Cupid aims a dart at Death. Thoma, Hans, 1839-1924.
