The Lamentation

This sculpture group once formed the central section of a small altar for the Carthusian monk who is himself shown kneeling at lower right. The altar would have stood in his cell where he could meditate on Christ’s Passion in solitude. The relief probably came from the Carthusian monastery in Roermond.
