Engraving on paper of the arms and costumes of Antwerp’s bourgeoisie (les armes et habitz des Bourgeois danners), from a series of Costumes of the various nations (Omnium pene Europae, Asiae, Aphricae atque Americae Gentium Habitus), engraved by Abraham de Bruyn (1538/40-1587) possibly in Cologne in 1580. In the top row, three sword carriers and three halberdiers. In the second row, the provost, a sergeant holding his hat, a colonel and four arquebusiers (infantryman) with swords and arquebus or haakbus (hook gun). The men are dressed in variations of the jerkins over doublet with puff sleeves, hose and various kinds of feathered hats.
