Escalier de Cristal, established in Paris in 1802, was a leading department store for all kinds of luxury items. It specialized in fitting bronze mounts onto glass objects and also sold work by various artists. The inspiration behind both the mounts and the ornamentation on this glass vase was Chinese art.
