Engraving on paper of the Massacre of the Innocents from a series of New Testament scenes, engraved and probably published by Jan Sadeler (1550-1600) after a design by Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) in Cologne in 1581. Latin text inscribed below is from Matthew 2.16. Mothers in Bethlehem try to protect their babies as soldiers slaughter all boys in Bethlehem two years and younger on the order of King Herod.
