Engraving on paper of the Flogging of the Apostles from a series based on the Acts of the Apostles, engraved and published by Jan Sadeler (1550-1600) after a design by Maarten de Vos (1532-1603), in Cologne c. 1580. Latin text inscribed below is from Acts 5.40. The apostles Peter and John are flogged and then freed by the Sanhedrin, and ordered not to speak the name of Jesus. In the background, the apostles preach on the steps of the Temple court in Jerusalem.
