Engraving on paper of the Temptation of Adam and Eve, engraved and published by Jan Sadeler I (1550-1600) after a design by Maarten de Vos (1532-1603), probably published in Antwerp in 1579. Latin verse below from 1 Corinthians 15.22: ‘In Adam all die’ (In Adam omnes moriuntur). Eve hands Adam a piece of fruit from the Forbidden Tree, which was in turn handed to her by the serpent. The animals in the Garden of Eden include rabbits, frogs, antelope, an elephant and a lion.
