Broeck, Crispin van den, after
Engraving on paper of episodes from the life of Jacob from a series of Genesis stories, attributed to Adriaen Collaert (c.1560-1618) after Crispin van den Broeck (1524-1589/91) and published by Eduard van Hoeswinckel (fl. 1570s-1583) in Antwerp between 1579 and 1583. The central panel depicts Esau selling his birth right to Jacob for a pottage of lentils. The three smaller scenes are, from left, Jacob and Rebekah deceive Isaac to receive his blessing, Jacob's ladder (Jacob dreams of angels on a stairway to heaven), and Jacob kisses Rachel at the well. Latin verse inscribed on cartouche below briefly describes the scenes.
