Crucifixion and scenes from the life of Christ

Engraving on paper of the Crucifixion surrounded by scenes from the life of Christ probably published by Eduard van Hoeswinckel (fl. 1570s-1583) in Antwerp between 1579 and 1583. The central panel shows the Crucifixion of Jesus flanked by the two thieves with Mary, John and Mary Magdalene below. Latin verse inscribed in the central cartouche is from 1 Corinthians 5.7. Surrounding scenes, with accompanying biblical citations, are clockwise from the top: the Last Supper (Mark 14), the Entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21), the dispute over Jesus’ testimony (John 8), the feeding of the 5000 (John 6), Jesus is tested in the wilderness (Matthew 4), the woman caught in adultery (John 8), and Jesus driving out a demon from a mute (Luc 11).
