Engraving on paper of the Last Judgement surrounded by the Seven Acts of Mercy, attributed to Hans Collaert (I) after a design by Jan Snellinck (I) (c.1544/49-1638) and probably published by Eduard van Hoeswinckel (fl. 1570s-1583) in Antwerp between 1554 and 1580. It is from a series of prints of the same format. The other subjects include, the Eight Beatitudes, the Seven Deadly Sins and the Choice between Good and Evil. The central panel depicts the Last Judgement with Christ seated on a rainbow flanked by Mary and John. Below, souls are sorted, the mouth of hell on the right. The Latin text in the cartouche is from Matthew 25.40. The surrounding scenes, each with accompanying Latin text, depict the seven corporal works of mercy, clockwise from the top: feed the hungry, visit the imprisoned, visit the sick, bury the dead, clothe the naked, give water to the thirsty, and shelter the homeless. Latin text beneath each image explains scene. Two angels playing trumpets recline in the upper spandrels.
