The bench is sculpted by Roman Haavamägi in 1940. The sculpture was ordered for the 100th anniversary of the composers' birth to commemorate his ties with the city. The bench was cleaned and preserved in the 1970's. Another round of renovations were performed in 2003. The bench on the Haapsalu beach promenade is made of bronze and Saaremaa dolomite and overlooks the Tagalaht bay. The sides of the backrest are engraved with bronze notation. The middle displays a bronze relief with a portrait of the composer, along with the text „P. I. Tchaikovsky 1840-1893“. During the 2003 restauration, the lost bronze lettering was replaced with brass letters. The font for the letters was based on old photographs.
