Hand coloured three-quarter length of a seated woman. The chair back is upholstered. She wears a pleated, long sleeve dress, with frill collars and blouse front. Brooch at her neck. Her hair is worn up in a middle parting. To her left is a table covered with a tablecloth which she rests her left elbow on. Her right hand rests in her lap, clasping the left hand. Plain background.

Lower half only of case, breaking apart and glass loose within it. Fragile. There is a complex design based on an oval on the reverse of the case, of which the leather is stained and worn.

Almost full length portrait of a woman, seated on a turned wood chair, facing to her right. She wears a decorative lace cap, not tied, the lappets falling down the front of her dark dress. She has a white blouse beneath with a fine lace edging to the collar. Lace cuffs. Jewellery includes a brooch on the blouse and a ring on her right hand. Hand coloured and gold highlights.
