Three quarter length double portrait of two sisters, seated. An enclosed note states 'Ellen M. Cooke (left) and her sister, Olive Cooke. Ellen born Nov. 18, 1831. Sixteen years old when picture was taken.' Ellen wears a dark dress and holds a large book on her lap, probably a bible. Both she and her sister have lace lappets around their necks, crossed at the front and held with brooches. Olive has a paler dress, both have small areas of white cuff showing at the end of the sleeves. An upholstered seat is visible behind Ellen. Lightly hand-coloured.
