Case separated into two parts

Hand coloured three-quarter length portrait of a seated woman. She wears a floral patterned dress with frill cuffs and collar. Around her neck she has a neck bow, brooch and long thin chain. She wears a wedding ring. Her hair is worn up in a middle parting. To her left is a table covered with a patterned tablecloth, which she rests her left elbow on. In her right hand, she holds a book in her lap. Visible in the background behind the table is the base of a fluted column. Plain background. Union case with Rococo design of firemen fighting a fire.

Lower half only of case, breaking apart and glass loose within it. Fragile. There is a complex design based on an oval on the reverse of the case, of which the leather is stained and worn.

Three quarter length portrait of a standing man in clerical or academic garb. A book in his hands, gesturing to a specific line, he looks out at the viewer in a direct manner. Hand-coloured with gold highlights. Held in a case with a built in stereoscopic viewer.
