She wears a long thin necklace around her neck. Her right hand rests on a table, which also displays a book, and her left hand rests in her lap. Hand colouring on her cheeks and necklace.

The stereo pair of images are hinged to fold in the middle. These are contained within a leather-covered card slip-case of a dark red-brown colour, with an incised line around the edges, 93 x 91 x 14 mm. The unusual housing may mean that they were originally intended to be seen in a Wheatstone viewer, later being joined for viewing in a Brewster type viewer.

Three quarter length portrait of a young child with straight hair, resting as though in sleep but in fact deceased. The child rests on a white cloth over bedding. The child wears a dress with short sleeves, gathered at the front. It is worn low over the shoulders where it is edged with lace and covers a white undergarment. Lightly hand-coloured.

Three quarter length portrait of a clean shaven young man (Egerton Cleeve) seated facing the camera. He wears a dark jacket, open to reveal a white waistcoat and shirt with down-turned collar with a small black cravat or tie, and dark trousers. His left arm rests on a table covered with a pale cloth and a book. His left hand is closed in a fist and rests on his left leg. His legs appear crossed. Part of the oval wood back of the chair is visible, as is part of the padded seat. A grave in the British Cemetery in Montevideo, Uruguay (Plot: F 006) gives Egerton Cleeve's date of birth as August 9, 1827, place: Woolwich, Greater London, England, and his death as April 30, 1857 in Montevideo. An accompanying note to the portrait states that the subject died young in Montevideo of yellow fever, so this may be his grave (see link).

The two plates show the same woman alive and dead.
