Gold coloured locket with suspension hoop and press button fastening. Case engraved with floral patterns, contains a hand coloured plate and a lock of human hair. Head and shoulders portrait of a man, wearing jacket, shirt, and cravat with pin in it. Hair is worn in a side parting and also has a moustache and side burns. Plain background. Human hair is brown and arranged into a curl with gold coloured thread on a white background.

Photographer Thomas Thurlow - In 1847 he acquired the license for Photography for the County of Suffolk which he practiced for a time. T Wharton case maker registered his ‘Design for a Miniature picture frame back’ with the certificate of registration on 23rd August 1841. This object is dated June 3rd , 1851 but on the backing the metal is embossed with 4 August 1841.

Lower half only of case, breaking apart and glass loose within it. Fragile. There is a complex design based on an oval on the reverse of the case, of which the leather is stained and worn.
