Stamped the cover of the case: Mr KILBURN BY APPOINTMENT 234 REGENT STREET with two coats of arms between the lettering. It is the royal warrant and photographer's name, 'Mr Kilburn, 234 Regent Street', stamped in gold on front. Kilburn' studio was based at 234 Regent street 234 Regent Street in Westminster between 1845 - July 1855.

Cover and tray separated into two parts

Very faded case / The same sitter as DA/38. The two photographs are so similar that they must have been taken at the same sitting and are close enough to have been taken using a stereoscopic camera.

A group of three men in a relaxed pose; John Benjamin Dancer, William Crawford Williamson and Edward William Binney. Dancer was a celebrated Manchester optician, photographer and instrument maker; an inventor of outstanding ability. He pioneered the making of microphotographs mounted on slides for microscope viewing. Edward William Binney made his fortune from patenting the manufacture of paraffin oil, was a distinguished scientist from Manchester and a geologist (palaeobotany) of repute.
