fyysinen kuvaus: Pääluettelo: Silmäinsuojus, jota käytetään lumen huikaisua ehkäisemään. Puusta veistetty kuunsirpin muotoinen laite, jossa on pitkä, kapea rako. Raon yläreuna työntyy varjostimen tavoin ulommaksi kuin alareuna. Laitteen sivusta ja ulkoreunat näyttävät erityisesti mustatuilta. Pituus 15.5 sm. Peabody Mus. n:o 50014. Lumilasit. Puusta valmistettu pitkulainen, hieman kaartuva silmäsuojus. Silmille on pituussuuntainen yksi kapea rako, jonka yläpuolinen reuna työntyy alareunaa edemmäksi kuin lipaksi. Kasvoille päin tulevat puuosat on työstetty sileiksi ja reunaan on tehty syvennys nenää varten. Suojuksen ulkoreuna on tummennettu mustalla värillä. Sivuilla on poratut reiät kiinnitysnauhaa varten, toisessa reunassa on pätkä jännenauhaa jäljellä. Snow goggles. An oblong wooden slightly curving protection for the eyes. A single narrow opening for both eyes is carved horizontally. Above the opening the upper edge is longer that the lower edge forming a vizor. The wooden parts which fit to the face have been hewn very smooth and an indentation for the nose is made. The goggles are stained with black pigment on the outer surface. There are perforated holes at the sides and a bit of sinew string for attaching the goggles now remains. Originally in the collections of the Peabody Museum, at Harvard University, in the United States. Donated to Peabody Museum by the Smithsonian Institution in 1888. Peabody received information that object was collected by W.J Fisher on the Alaskan Peninsula in 1838 - 1886. In the Fisher collections at the Smithsonian there were a pair of snow goggles of quite the same length numbered E127780 which were given to “Putnam 5/88”, apparently referring to the Director of the Peabody Museum at the time. Mason (1894) also published a drawing and information of a pair of goggles collected by Fisher with a number E127780 (in the drawing mistakenly 127784) (p. 303, Fig. 33 and p. 306) from Kuskinak, Alaska, a Yup’ik (Aglurmute) item.
