fyysinen kuvaus: Pääluettelo: Pyyntikeihäs, käytetty belugan eli ”valkean valaan” pyynnissä. Lyhyen liereän puuvarren päässä on vannerautainen kärki, jonka tyvessä varsi on kiedottu sarveisnauhalla. Koko pit. 43.6 sm, kärjen pit. 4.7 sm. Peabody Mus. n:o 52084. Keihäs maitovalaan pyyntiin. Oikeastaan kyseessä on keihäässä käytetty etuvarsi ja keihään kärki. Puinen etuvarsi on lyhyt. Siihen on kiinnitetty valaan hetulalla rautainen lehdenmuotoinen kärki. Varteen on kaiverrettu kolme vinoviivaa omistajan merkiksi. Varressa olevassa lovessa on pieni pala hylkeennahkaa. Spear for hunting beluga whale. This is actually the foreshaft and the lance head of a spear. The wooden foreshaft is short. A leaf-shaped iron head is lashed with baleen to the shaft. Three diagonal lines have been incised on the foreshaft as the owner’s mark. There is a piece of seal skin inserted into a wedge on the shaft. Originally in the collections of the Peabody Museum, at Harvard University, in the United States. Donated to Peabody Museum by Capt. Miner Bruce in 1898. Collected most likely by Capt. Bruce himself when he was Superintendent for the reindeer herding project in Port Clarence 1892 - 1893 or in the next years, until 1897, when he was collecting artifacts for several important US museums (VanStone, 1986).
