The handle is made of a slightly curving piece of driftwood. Two seal claws have been lashed with skin thong to the handle. Originally in the collections of the Peabody Museum, at Harvard University, in the United States. Donated to Peabody Museum by Capt. Miner Bruce in 1898. Collected most likely by Capt. Bruce himself when he was Superintendent for the reindeer herding project in Port Clarence 1892 - 1893 or in the next years, until 1897, when he was collecting artifacts for several important US museums (VanStone, 1986).
