The Great Triumpher

The artist copied Dürer’s first published woodcut work “The Great TriumphDer” in 1518, which was published for the first time in 1522. Drawn by twelve horses, each accompanied by an allegorical female figure, a dynamic bustle develops around Emperor Maximilian I, who sits in a magnificently decorated carriage. Guldenmund took over the eight print sticks of the template in more detail, but the accompanying Latin text and the figure designations deviate in places. The so-called Guldenmund copies were first published in 1529 in Nuremberg, 1545 in Antwerp and 1609 in Amsterdam (see Schoch II.473).
